An Evening of Music at Penn Street
featuring the Aylesbury Consort of Voices and Wendlebury Winds

The Aylesbury Consort of Voices and Wendlebury Winds performed a varied programme of music drawn from themes of nature.
The Consort performed a variety of songs ranging from Finzi’s lyrical “Seven Poems of Robert Bridges” to the playful, light and joyous “En une seule Fleur” by Lauridsen from his “Les chansons des Roses”. Soprano Sara Kalic featured as soloist in Esenvalds’ evocative “Only in Sleep” and a well known Blackbird also graced our evening.
The Wendlebury Winds Ensemble was in quintet form and gave us an atmospheric programme including Milhaud’s “La Cheminee de Roi Rene”, Mozart’s Divertimento K270 and the Iolanthe Overture by Sullivan.
There was a joint performance by both groups at the finale for a rendition of the refined and elegantly lyrical “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Faure.
