Evocative choral music celebrating Maundy Thursday and Easter, exploring themes of hope and renewal with a varied programme including works by:
Tavener, Palestrina, Byrd, Purcell, Judith Weir, Ola Gjeilo and Christopher Tin.
Join us at Launde Abbey on 7th December at 3pm for ‘Waiting for the Light’, an afternoon of scripture and song in the beautiful chapel, led by Launde Abbey and the Aylesbury Consort of Voices, followed by mulled wine and mince pies. The choir sang a varied programme, perfect for a summer’s afternoon, including works by Rutter, Dove and Whitacre, as well as some more familiar modern classics. The choir sang a variety of wonderful music inspired by themes of spring and renewal and was accompanied by Richard Norriss. The Aylesbury Consort returns to open the 2024 Aylesbury Lunchtime Music concert series, singing a wonderful and varied selection of seasonal music including Palestrina’s Surge, Illuminare Jerusalem and Harris’ Faire is the Heaven as well as Northern Lights by Ola Gjeilo. An RAF Halton community event – afternoon concert of music followed by tea and cake! www.wegottickets.com/event/576138 An evening of choral music with a programme inspired by an avian theme, and also featuring works by the non-feathered William Byrd, in this, the 400th anniversary year of the great composer’s death. ‘Laudibus in Sanctis’ and ‘Sing Joyfully’ will be complemented by a range of other pieces spanning the ages including ‘The Turtle Dove’ by Ralph Vaughan Williams, ‘Il est bel et bon’ by Passereau, ‘Nightingales’ by Gerald Finzi, ‘Birds’ Lullaby’ by Sarah Quartel and Stanford’s ‘Blue Bird’. There will also be a couple of jazz classics, as well as the contemporary ‘Hope is the thing with Feathers’ by Christopher Tin, lyric by Emily Dickinson. The Aylesbury Consort of Voices and Wendlebury Winds performed a varied programme of music drawn from themes of nature. The Consort performed a variety of songs ranging from Finzi’s lyrical “Seven Poems of Robert Bridges” to the playful, light and joyous “En une seule Fleur” by Lauridsen from his “Les chansons des Roses”. Soprano Sara Kalic featured as soloist in Esenvalds’ evocative “Only in Sleep” and a well known Blackbird also graced our evening. The Wendlebury Winds Ensemble was in quintet form and gave us an atmospheric programme including Milhaud’s “La Cheminee de Roi Rene”, Mozart’s Divertimento K270 and the Iolanthe Overture by Sullivan. There was a joint performance by both groups at the finale for a rendition of the refined and elegantly lyrical “Cantique de Jean Racine” by Faure.
